Registered Apprenticeships are jobs involving a relation-ship between an employer and employee, in which the worker (the apprentice) learns an occupation in a structured program consis- ting of supervised on-the-job training and related theo- retical classroom instruction. Apprenticeship programs may be sponsored jointly by employers and labor unions or operated by individual employers or employee associations. Apprenticeship programs are administered through the Vermont Department of Employment and Training in cooperation with the United States Department of Labor’s Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training.
Apprenticeships are designed to provide workers entering industry with training and expose them to both practical and theoretical aspects of the work required in a highly skilled occupation.
