| The United Way of Chittenden County
95 St. Paul Street, 2nd Floor The United Way of Chittenden County exists to provide people of this community with an efficient way to channel their resources to human services. Long seen primarily as a way to give, United Way is really a way to care, weaving together all of the resources locally. The United Way is governed by a 36-member Board of Directors. This board is made up of community leaders from across the county. As an autonomous organization, the Board of Directors can mandate its own policy to best serve the people of Chittenden County. Some member agencies include: American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Howard Center for Human Services, Boys and Girls Club, Chittenden Community Action/Emergency Food Shelf, Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS), Essex Meals on Wheels, King Street Youth Center, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), Visiting Nurse Association, and Women Helping Battered Women. Activities Offered: Career Guest Speakers Topics include volunteerism, fund-raising, critical issues of the local community and an overview of human services. Through the agencys Living History Project, seniors who volunteer through RSVP come to the classroom and share their memories and knowledge of such events as World War II, the Civil Rights Movement, the Great Depression, the Cold War Era, and more. These lectures will be recorded on video tape to preserve this wealth of personal experiences. This project can be helpful to children who do not have grandparents or for a sense of realness of history. Professions/Occupations: Executive Director |
