Since its establishment in 1957, IBM Burlington has been a leader in the development and manufacture of electronic components for IBM information processing systems. Today it is one of the world’s largest producers of semiconductor technology with approximately 7,200 employees in facilities comprising more than 3.2 million square feet on a 725-acre site.

IBM Burlington produces memory, logic, microprocessor, and special-purpose microchips used worldwide across the full range of IBM’s product line and in the merchant marketplace. The site has led the way with successive generations of memory products and in recent years, the site’s product line has expanded to the full range of chip technology applications such as microprocessors for personal computers and specialized chips for multimedia, video, networking, and telecommunications. IBM Burlington has some of the most sophisticated cleanroom manufacturing facilities in the world which are used continuously to optimize manufacturing capacity.

IBM Burlington has a highly skilled workforce. Most employees have post-secondary education, ranging from some college to Ph.D degrees. About 30 percent are engineers while another 30 percent are technicians or workstation owners (highly skilled operators).
