Job Shadowing enables a student to follow an employee for a short period of time, in order to learn about a particular occupation or industry. This activity is intended to help students explore the world of work and a range of opportunities found within an occupational area.
Job shadowing experiences should reflect diversity — a variety of ethnicities, both genders, and a range of both traditional and non-traditional jobs. It is important for students to have experiences in careers that are non-traditional for their gender. Students feel more enthusiasm for trying something new when they see someone like themselves as a leader. Students need to be assured that work-based learning experiences will provide for their safety and be free of intimidation.
